Drawing Fundamentals I
Wednesdays, January 11 - February 15, 2012, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Course Fee: $165
Drawing is the foundation for all studio practice. Students will begin by breaking down everyday objects into basic
shapes such as circles, triangles and squares to construct simple line drawings. They will also learn to understand
the effects of light, shading, and cast shadows upon objects. Demonstrations by the teacher will help students
understand how to use highlights and shading to develop the illusion of depth on paper. Students will be taught how
to check their drawings for accuracy using measuring techniques. This is a good class to take if you want to learn
how to draw from a classically taught master of drawing. Materials list

Drawing Fundamentals II
Mondays, January 9 - February 13, 2012, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Course Fee: $165
Building on the skills learned in Drawing Fundamentals I, students will continue to hone their observational powers,
based on time-honored classical drawing techniques. Through the incorporation of essential principles of drawing,
students will learn additional skills needed to create the illusion of three-dimensionality in their work. Various
measuring techniques will be demonstrated to improve understanding of proportion and scale. The use of one-and
two- point perspective will be introduced to further enhance accuracy in drawing. While Drawing Fundamentals I is
not a prerequisite to take this class, some drawing experience is recommended to get the most out of it.

"First, one seeks to become an artist by training the hand – techniques. Then one
finds it is the eye that needs improving – drawing skills. Later, one learns it is the mind
that wants developing – design or composition, only to discover that the ultimate quest
of the artist is in the spirit – content". - Larry Brullo
