INTRO TO PORTRAIT SCULPTURE

Six Sessions
Studying the structure and forms of the face will be the primary focus of this class
Students will gain an understanding of the variations of the human head and learn
the foundation of the planes (large and small) and the anatomy (bones and
muscles). Through intensive calibrating and measuring, students will learn proper
technique in acquiring the information necessary for achieving a clear likeness in
a sculptural portrait. Modeling techniques and casting options will also be
addressed in the final stages of completion of a formal life-sized bust sculpture.

- HB Charcoal or Graphite pencils

- box cutter to sharp pencil
- Roma (#2 grey-green) or Chavant plastelina
- 3/16" aluminum armature wire (6 ft)
- 24 gauge copper wire
- 18 gauge aluminum wire
- Needle nose pliers
- clay knife
- 12" metal ruler
- sculpting tools
- calipers
- Armature stand and support (discussed in class)
