THE FIGURE IN CLAY
*Sculpture experience is recommended. Ages: Mature Students
Course Fee: $250
Six Sessions

This course will examine the structural bedrock of the human torso: the spatial
relationship between the ribcage and pelvis. We will build our own armature,
examine specific anatomical structures and apply proper calibration
techniques. We will be working from a live nude model.
Materials:

  • HB Charcoal or Graphite pencils
  • sketch book
  • kneaded eraser
  • box cutter to sharp pencil
  • Roma (#2 grey-green) or Chavant plastelina
  • 3/16" aluminum armature wire (6 ft)
  • 24 gauge copper wire
  • 18 gauge aluminum wire
  • Needle nose pliers
  • clay knife
  • 12" metal ruler
  • sculpting tools
  • calipers
  • Armature stand and support (discussed in class)
  • Atlas of  Human Anatomy for the Artist by Stephen Rogers Peck (optional)
