LOZA STUDIO & ATELIER is a private teaching studio located in Apison, TN
within a few miles from the growing artists community of Chattanooga. We are the
only local institution whose primary focus is the study of drawing and painting from
life. At LSA we provide art training to artists of all levels at an affordable cost
compared to other establishments. Our students will be equiped with a solid
foundation of knowledge in all disciplines upon which they can develop the
building blocks of their artistic future.
We offer one-day and weekend workshops as well as weekly classes; excellent
for sculptors, painters, forensic artists, illustrators and digital artists. Students who
aspire a career as a professional artist can benefit from our part-time, year-round
Atelier Curriculum based on 19th-century European ateliers*, where the primary
objective is to train the eye to see shapes and proportions correctly, and the
development of the skill to model form convincingly.
*Atelier (atil-ya) French word for "workshop or private working studio" of a professional
painter or sculptor. From the Old French astelier (bottega in Italian).

See. Compare. Portray - These three skills combined
with the knowledge obtained throughout my academic
training have been essential to my artistic career and it is
the back bone of Loza Studio & Atelier. Our primary
objective is teach our students to train their eye to see
shapes and proportions correctly, and to develop the
ability to model form convincingly.
"The painter draws with his eyes, not with his hands. Whatever he sees, if he
sees it clear, he can put down. The putting of it down requires, perhaps, much
care and labor, but no more muscular agility than it takes for him to write his
name. Seeing clear is the important thing." -Maurice Grosser
When we see, the brain actually processes the information, based upon prior
knowledge, and assigns meaning to the images received. This is the primary
skill that every artist needs to master before wanting to progress with their artistic
training. The next skill that we need to learn is the ability to compare. When we
compare, we are examining the character or qualities of an object in order to
discover resemblances or differences. This skill can only be achieved by
mastering the ability to see. Finally, only through the mastery of seeing and
comparing, the artist will be capable to portray or represent any subject
regardless the medium they choose to describe their subject.
